Politics vs. Philosophy

I realize in the last few years as my desire to pursue philosophy has declined, my interest in politics has increased. I am no talking about political philosophy, as in what type of government is best, but rather the very practical aspects of our current government. When I started to think about this, I at first considered it to perhaps to be my age. That as I grow older I start to worry more about the right now aspects of life as oppose to the greater meaning of it all. I more I contemplate this the more I doubt it is my age. It actually seems that one would start to wonder more about the greater meaning of life as they progress in years.

But then I was reminded of the idea that many thinkers have had on why philosophy first arose in the west in Greece. The idea is that for the first time in humanities existence the were not totally consumed with the needs for survival. They had reached a point where they could direct energies to other aspects of existence besides their own survival. This allowed them to pursues philosophy, which while may enrich ones existence is not necessary for ones existence. So how does this tie into me worried more about politics than philosophy? I think that the political climate has got so bad in this country & therefore in turn the rest of the world, that we maybe once again fighting for our very existence. One can not help but feel that the world is a powder keg on the verge of exploding.

Or perhaps I am just lazy and politics is easier than philosophy. Or perhaps I am just being a little dramatic today.
