We woke late to the maid kicking us out of our hotel. We decided to get Indian food for lunch. It turns out the closes Indian is in Madison which looks to be around 25 mins from our hotel. Well around an hour later we finally get there. It has a all you can eat buffet. It is fun to finally get to hang out with D & J. They are recovering from their 2nd night deer creek drama.
We finally get to the lot around 4. We clean and pack the car for a couple of hours. We sell the rest of our Vodka & lemonade and head into the show. On the way in R get turned away at the gates with a fake ticket. She jumps the gates but ends up getting chased down by Security. Not sure what happened to her. This is one of things I hate about tour ending shows. You never find out how people fair during the last show.
We sit on the lawn for the first set.
6/26/04 - Set I
THE LAWN AT ALPINE SUCKS!!!! I never really get into this set at all. Everyone around us are completely oblivious to Phish. They are talking & drinking and you would never know the band is on. From what I can focus on during the first set, it appears fairly standard.
During set break, Holly & I try to get her a waterwheel sweatshirt. They are sold out so we don't get one, but we do manage to sneak into the Pav.
Set II
Boogie On opens the second set and has a great jam. over 12 mins and a great start. This fades into Ghost. There is no let down here and it appears that the band has once again found their groove. Ghost heads into a rockin Free and the set takes a breather with Friday. The PIPER. You always know you are in for a journey with Piper the last couple of years. A 16 min piper gives way to Hood. A nice hood to end the best set they have played since SPAC.
We watch the Possum encore from the top of the lawn and it is time to say good bye to another venue. I will not miss Alpine that much. The last few years the security have become such assholes and well the lawn at Alpine just sucks.
We rush to the car to try and beat traffic. As we leave the parking lot we com across a dog that is clearly lost. We stop and talk with the cop. They are not going to do anything about him, so we take care of him for awhile as we try to track down the owner. After almost an hour we finally leave the dog after talking with the owner who is on their way to get him.
We drive down to just north of Chicago and sleep for a couple hours in the car. We return the car and check in to our flight.
As we head back to SF, the craziness of the last few weeks start to sink in. We have but 5 Phish shows left. But that does not seem to matter as I look at Holly knowing we are getting married. The emotions of it all just makes the whole things seems like a dream. A very strange dream.
